Material: Zirconium oxide

Zirconium oxide is an inorganic non-metal material that belongs to the group of oxide ceramics. The material is produced from the mineral zirconium silicate (ZrSiO4) by washing, cleaning or calcinating the silicate sand. After all impurities have been removed, only the 99% zirconium oxide powder remains. An alternative manufacturing method is to dessicate the zirconium oxide hydrates or zirconium salts, followed by annealing. This material is characterised by a particularly high resistance against thermal, chemical and mechanical impact. The pre-treatment is equally important: The higher the temperature, to which the zirconium oxide is heated during the manufacturing stage, the more resistant it is against acids.
